Tartaraghan, Armagh, Ireland
« on: Sunday 22 March 20 04:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, VERY VERY new user and feeling my way. Now My GG Grandparents came from Tartaraghan, Armagh, Ireland and came over on the "Ganges" to new Zealand in 1865

Now how do I go about getting a copy of their birth records and/or Marriage records.

What does it cost and is it hard to do. I have sort gone as far as I can with this line.

They were married before they left Tartaraghan, Armagh, Ireland 19 May 1864

Hill, Smith, Barnaby, Bassett, Batkin, Woolley

Welcome to Rootschat
If the marriage was registered you get a copy here
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
You just need to prove your not a robot and sign in. Cost is zero.
For births or if the marriage wasn't registered you need church records so it depends on their religion.

Tartaraghan, Armagh is here...  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01p7o/

in LURGAN REGISTRATION DISTRICT  https://www.swilson.info/regdistmap.php?gregdistid=108

IF they were not R.Catholic one can try

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

which is the Irish Govt BDM Website, safe/free to use!

only entering    Surname   and LURGAN    as district   plus 1863  in the  last Year Range box

getting all Marriages before 1864 when R.C Marriages were then included!

Forgot to say...if you get a list of names on Civil Reg

Right click on 5 or 6 Names and      Open them in New Tab

much handier/quicker!

There's also http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ if any of your ancestor's relations stayed in Ireland. It's also free.

Births weren't recorded until 1864, so you would be looking for church records. What are the names. I'm also researching in this parish.  Is it the John Smith/Mary Matchett who were married that day in Tartaraghan:

yes anything really. I take it there would be a birth record some place for them.

Can you make out the Place of residence for Mary??
