Off Licences are now included in the list of "Essential Shops"

Off Licences (that's 'Liquor Store' for our friends across the pond) are now on the list of businesses that are allowed to stay open. (UK)

I suppose they are less busy that supermarkets.

Personally I think garden centres more essential than off licences, maybe it’s to reduce the pressure
on supermarkets,

I guess it depends on how you like to spend your spare time. If people want to take the edge off with a tipple that's fine by me.  :D

I suppose they have to recognize that some people will have alcohol dependence, and sudden withdrawal could have detrimental effects.

Have not "offies" always been essential?. They certainly were before it was possible buy drink from almost every corner shop, supermarket and garage in the land. I believe supermarkets are imposing restrictions on the amount of drink customers are allowed to buy.

That is the reason being cited for leaving our LCBO (Liquor Control Board Ontario) stores open, albeit now on reduced opening hours (and closed on Mondays).  Plus they are a source of revenue for the Provincial government.  I also noticed that a supermarket near me that sells wine and beer, now has a sign up saying these goods are no longer for sale (even though the items remain on the shelves).

I wonder how people dependent on illegal drugs will cope.
