Coupe Family
« on: Friday 27 March 20 17:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi ,
My Coupe Family George Alice and baby daughter left Liverpool soon after Margaret was baptized in 1834 travelling to Ireland 7 more children were born in Ireland before they return to St. Helens Lancashire where the last child born in 1846,
George was a carpenter by trade and its been suggested to me that perhaps Ireland needed more carpenters to build the coffins after the famine .
I presume they would have travelled to Dublin but has anybody any thoughts on where they would have gone from there, I know its a long shot I am trying to find out where the children would have been baptized.
Best Wishes and thanks
Margie

Not unless he had a Crystal Ball and went to Ireland to make coffins in preparation for the Great Famine that was due to start in 1845!

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

Is the child Margaret this person - Margaret Coup born 16/4/1835 and christened at St Anthony's Liverpool  and parents were George Coup and Alice Howarth? (from Family Search)

The other children's names? from 1851 UK Census
James Coup   Son   M   14   Ireland
Elizabeth Coup   Daughter   F   12   Ireland
Mary Coup   Daughter   F   11   Ireland
John Coup   Son   M   10   Ireland
George Coup   Son   M   8   Ireland
Alice Coup   Daughter   F   7   Ireland
Thomas Coup   Son   M   5   Ireland

On this same record there is a visitor from Ireland Catherine Fruce? Frew, Frughe, Bruce, Hughes. She is aged 28 and born therefore 1822/3 perhaps.

I am not sure if Find My Past has the originals to look at. This would be my first step -  ie to see if you can see the originals somewhere.

It might be worth trying to find out a bit more about her as she may have been a friend from the place in Ireland that they came from. She, if Frew, may have been baptised at SS Michael & John in Dublin. There is an entry at that church for a Catherine Frew in 1820 and for a Wm Frew in 1831 and then a baptism of a child to a Catherine Frew and Pat McCabe in 1855 at Rathfarnham Dublin.

If Hughes there is a bapt also at SS Michael & John.

Last two paras just sheer speculation!

Have you searched https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ just putting Surname in and searching, see if you recognize anything?

Select Dublin or whatever

Hi
See this link.... look at the record for house book, it states Carpenter.

http://census.nationalarchives.ie/search/vob/results.jsp?surname=&firstname=george&year_from=&year_to=&dd_dd=&dd_mm=&dd_yyyy=&book=&county=&barony=&parish=&townland=doon+upper&last_name_other_or_lessor=&first_name_other_or_lessor=&search=Search

Was the first child Baptized in St Anthony's the Parish in Liverpool, were they Catholic?

Doon Upper is North West of Ballinasloe, the parish stated was Fohanagh, this is the area to search...….
