Help identifying Cap badge
« on: Monday 30 March 20 16:20 BST (UK) »
I've been trying to find more info about my grandfather's WW1 military record, however to no avail(I know that many records were destroyed in WW2)
Would anyone be able to identify his cap badge for me?
He came from the Moss side/Hulme area of Manchester
He is in the centre on the back row. While the photo isn't clear, i think it may be the same as the ne on the front left, which is clearer.
Would really appreciate any help or advice as to how  can find this info.
Many Thanks

It might be The King's Liverpool Regiment.

Philip

ADDED - the place of origin of a Great War soldier often has no bearing on the regiment he served in - soldiers were allocated to whichever regiment was reinforcing or forming new battalions at the time.

Did he survive the war?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

You are very welcome.

And - I forgot to say - a warm welcome to Rootschat.

If you post his name we can find out if he was entitled to any medals, - if so, we would confirm his regiment and discover his service number which might help with further details.

Philip

He appears to be Samuel Roby Hall (see below the pic) - so far no medal card for a KLR man by that name.  There was a Manchester Regiment Samuel R Hall who did not survive the war hence the query.  May have transferred, there are other Manchester Regt men in the pic.

See https://17thmanchesters.wordpress.com/afterwards/casualties-after-disbandment/awaiting-commemoration-sgt-1785-albert-edward-hall-6th-bttn-died-17-04-1920/

"No records have been found for Samuel Roby Hall’s service.  He was 37 years old in 1914 and it is likely that he was discharged as being unsuitable or unfit for the military.  Samuel remarried to Florence Harrison at St Clément’s Church on 4th March 1916.  He was then employed as Warehouseman, indicating had been discharged from the Army.  The couple had two sons and a daughter."
