Beaulieu baptisms - in Beaulieu or elsewhere?
« on: Wednesday 01 April 20 16:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to piece together the family of a Mary Dore who lived in Beaulieu and died there c.1750. I have searched the parish registers for Beaulieu on FindMyPast, and there is only one baptism coming up for the time period for anyone with the surname Dore. My question is whether those born in Beaulieu could have possibly been baptised elsewhere, i.e was there a church/parish nearby that baptisms for those from Beaulieu took place?

Huge thanks in advance!

Was Mary married?  Do you know her husband's name?

There is the burial of a Mary Dore in Beaulieu in 1779.  A Mary Dore (although the name may be difficult to read in the original) was buried in Boldre (adjacent parish) in 1750.

So perhaps some details of other family members might help.  When approaching something like this, a different angle sometimes helps.

John & Elizabeth Dore had the following children baptised at Beaulieu

William 14 Oct 1728
Nicholas 27 Dec 1731

Then there is
William son of Thomas baptised 27 Jan 1743/4,
Thomas son of Thomas 20 Oct 1745

Added Thomas's wife was Mary Godfrey and they married in Beaulieu in 1743

According to FindMyPast the Beaulieu baptism on the site only start at 1752.

Oh gosh, yes that would explain it wouldn't it?!  ::) Whoops, thank you for pointing that out, I missed that entirely!

Which brings me to the next question then; apparently the registers exist from 1653 onwards - other than the record offices, which are obviously closed right now, are there transcripts available either to purchase or online? Off to search!

Hi Nell,

Thank you very much for this! Can I ask where you found this information? I'm now searching for parish register transcripts if they exist due to FindMyPast only starting mid 1750s.

Thank you very much for taking the time to look for me :)

Are the Beaulieu register transcripts available to purchase online?

Yes.  Hampshire Genealogical Society have indexes for the whole county (excluding Isle of Wight) on CD.  This is the link to their shop:
