Saving a family tree as a PDF
« on: Saturday 04 April 20 11:05 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if it's possible to download a gedcom file from Ancestry, isolate certain sections of it, then safe it as a PDF

I want to send parts of my tree to a relative but they don't have a subscription to any of the genealogy websites but can hopefully view a PDF.

Any techy help most appreciated
Thanks
Jill

Do you know how to use the snipping tool or PrintScreen?

Does the snipping tool give you a screen shot? If yes, then I've used it in the past and can google the instructions again to remind me  :)

The Gedcom format is laid out like Excel Spreadsheet.   Simple Family Tree is a FREE program with absolutely no frils or adverts or whatever.  You can recommend they Download it Free from the internet.
GRAMPS is also free but it requires a lot of learning - stick to Simple
Libreoffice ( a suite of programs Free, similar to Windows Office suite, can create and read and modify PDF (Portable Document Format)
another great Freebie,  Sumatra PDF

A second thought about your quest ... if it's only a few pages or screens you want to copy and send, why not just Search Ancestry .. get the info on screen and do a screen grab (Print Screen) ... this puts that screen into a clipboard memory store so you can Open your Paint program and Edit /PASTE and save it as a Picture, jpg, jpeg will do.  You can them email your contact and add the pic as an attachment,   simples

No problem....

so you have your Tree on Ancestry, can you get to the branch/twig you want to send?
