whole family just disappeared!
« on: Monday 22 August 05 13:46 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have a missing family on the 1891 census.

On the 1881 census they are

George Browning - Head, b 1852, fletching
Caroline Browning (nee Newnham) - Wife, b 1858, horsted keynes
Caroline K Browning - dau, b 1878 fletching
Elizabeth M Browning - dau, b 1880 fletching

I know that Caroline (wife) died between 1881 - 1891 so she would not be on the next census, however, I appear to have 'lost' George and the 2 daughters! Does anyone have any ideas as where to look for them?! I have tried census 1891 for England, is it likely they have moved country?

I also thought that perhaps they could have all died together in a family tragedy or something?

Thanks,

Kim

Hi Kim,

What would George's occupation be?

There is a George age 38, Gardener, with a wife Alice and daughter Kate (=Caroline K?) age hard to read, son George 9 and son Alfred 1.
Is he a possible?
West Hoathly, Sussex

Wow, you lot have been busy!

The occuption for George Browning on 1881 census is Ag Lab.

The death for Caroline, 1888 sounds about right, 1888/9 was a rough estimate from a family member. But if George married again in 1889 he worked fast!!

Its so sad that her children died young, I think I will investigate, get the certificates and find out why!

I think the family including the new wife Alice is probably the husband George I am looking for, with new children via new wife.

Thanks you so much!!

Kim
