Owen Jones Born 1760
« on: Sunday 05 April 20 19:28 BST (UK) »
I am getting back into genealogy (recently retired) and searching for information on Owen Jones born in 1760 at Twddyn Hwrdd, Dwyran. He died at Twddyn Hwrdd and was buried at Llangeinwen Parish Church. He was married to Catherine.

Thank you

Owen Thomas

Without more info I`ve no idea if this is connected. he is in the right parish.
This one`s wife is Margaret and I have no idea how old he was.
Just that it`s got Father and sons Owen Jones, but also his childrens names.
A common names is Jones in Wales unfortunately.

Thanks for the messages. The link to an earlier request i made was a different Owen Jones. This is for the grandparent or gr grandparent of the one earlier requested. He was born in 1760 and married Catherine (unknown maiden name).  I think he was from Tafarn tusw, but do not know if that was a house name or a town. There children were Catherine (b 1776), Mary (b 1791), John (b 1797). He died in 1845 at Twyddyn Hwrdd. I have his descendant information, but looking for his ancestors.

THANK YOU

I don`t know if this is of any use,  but I don`t think the Owen Jones 1815 is connected.
He lived at Quirt, Dwran  and was obviously a  farmer.

Any way with lots of time on my hands I used the Tithe maps to try to locate the place names you mention.
It doesn`t really help with the family , but nice to see where they lived and  if they were landowners or occupiers. Problem is they could be different people with the same name.

So using your info that  the 1760 – 1844 Owen Jones  was at Tafarn Tusw.  He died at Twddyn Hwrdd

https://places.library.wales/

Using the tithe maps  and searching for Owen Jones in Anglesey gives hundreds of results. By narrowing it down to Llangeinwen I found  one  that  might be yours.

Map Name    Llangeinwen Field Number    127,134,146
Field Name    Tyddyn r hwrdd . Landowner    Mr Owen Jones
Occupier    Owen Jones  Area 2A 2R 4P Tithe Value    11s. 6d.

There are two plots for Tafarn hwsw , but on the map there is a Tafarn Hwsw fach  ( small) and Tafarn hwsw fawr. (big)

Choose the  View Apportionment  then scroll through the pages.
Page 6 number on plan 47
John Owen Esq landowner. John Parry occupier Tafarn hwsw fach

Page 7 number on plan 48
Thomas Peers Williams Esq. Landowner. John Owen occupier  Tafarn hwsw fach

The maps seem to have been done in December 1840.
I did some of the transcribing myself and really enjoy using them to find where ancestors actually lived.

Thank you Wilcoxon. Very interesting to look through these tithe maps, even though i do not completely understand them. I saw a lot of place names i have seen previously. Do you know if these were created yearly?

No, it was only the once. They can be very useful, but for someone who has never used them they can be quite tricky  Especially in an area with many parishes.
