Viktoria, you say 'My daughter has Pernicious Anaemia pretty bad.
Needs monthly injections of B12 .
Her Dr,s surgery phoned to say it was too risky to give it to her'.

This is essential treatment, the sort of thing the government is pleading with us to have done. It may not be a heart attack or a stroke, but long term effects of not having it are extremely serious, as I am sure you both know.

Risks would be minimal, I would have thought.

I enrolled on a drug trial before this kicked off, had one appointment and injection. Trial now temporarily suspended, but it would have involved half hour or so in close contact, blood taking and further injection, quite risky for nurse and patient.

A quick injection with no need to talk for more than a few minutes, both nurse and patient with masks on, is another matter entirely.

I would be inclned to put some pressure on, may work, may not.

My mother has her B12 every 8 weeks and her GP's surgery still gave it last week - she was a little overdue as she had broken her ankle and we couldn't get her there when she was in plaster. We tried getting a nurse to come out but they wouldn't do that, but there was no problem going to the surgery. She goes downhill really quickly without it, so she had to have it.

Maybe you need to push them a bit? It's not fair for her to suffer.

I agree and my daughter is getting more anxious as time goes on  .
It is actually dangerous not to have it, the fact she needs it monthly tells you something.
The number of times pre diagnosis she has had to phone as she knew she was not fit to drive and was working away from home,- Notts- but needing to be back here .
She would phone us her family but then two people had to go,one to drive her and her car back and another to drive the “ rescue “ car back.
It is in my mother’s family and my father’s grandmother had it and my husband’s mother too.
My daughter is however the only one in her generation to have it .
Very frightening to stand at the roadside in strange pain ,inarticulate and yet dangerous to stay in her vehicle., waiting a couple of hours to be picked up.
No warning of the symptoms. She ended up calling emergency services as the attacks got worse, pre diagnosis. She had to do it before she became unable to speak clearly.
Thanks, you have stiffened my resolve ,but she too is curious as to why it should be thought the lesser of two risks to miss her injection.
Her blood cells are deformed and do not pass along smaller blood vessels easily. The complications are debatably much worse than the risk of getting Corona Virus if all precautions are observed.
She is a fighter and will get it sorted ,I am sure , but what unnecessary hassle.
Thanks again both of you.
VIKTORIA.-I am in fighting mood!
P.S
Is fine when injections regular but is going downhill already ,as time comes around for her next one.
She has to act whilst she still can.V

Good, Viktoria. If your daughter is beginning to deteriorate already, after only 4 weeks, she really needs it.
Any chance she could self administer it?
If not, Go in fighting!

Completely agree, your daughter needs to push it Viktoria.

The problem is, what to do with it next. Do I trust him with a trim if it needs one?

Regards Margaret

No!!! As you said, no-one sees it but the two of you, I'd hang out for a hairdresser! If you have a fringe that needs cutting you could trim that yourself but if I was you I wouldn't trust the husband and scissors combination again.

Just looked it up and it is Government advice, well The Pernicious Anaemia  Society are of course up in arms about it.
They are seemingly contesting it with The Government.
It is a complicated picture as the immune system is compromised with PA.
She has Psoriasis,Granuloma Annuli , both when the body is attacking itself.
It is the nerve damage and distorted blood cells that are also dangerous.
Well come the morning ,and she will start to sort it out.
Thanks for your support.
Viktoria.

My daughter contacted the Dr today,he won’t budge as it is a Govetnment Directive.
It would appear that there is some confusion between  Pernicious  Anaemia
and simple lack of B12, they are not the same thing.
Lack of B12 can be helped by taking B12 orally ,but Pernicious Anaemia has the added problem that the   Intrinsic Factor in the stomach has been destroyed,so B12 cannot be assimilated that way.

Over use of antacids and indigestion remedies can kill the  Intrinsic  Factor .
Hopefully The Pernicious  Anaemia Society will be able to get it sorted.
Viktoria.
Washed and did my own hair this morning ,using those spikey rollers that need no little pins to anchor them.
Not bad but by the timeI have slept on it!  ::)
Never mind big delivery from Tesco tomorrow.
Just off the phone from my daughter so off to wash out the  fridge -again- !
Cheerio, folks, hope all is well with everyone.
Viktoria.

Oh dear - it's cruel! People are becoming ill for no real reason. I hope the society will have a good result for you soon.
