Birth registered in Cardiff district Sep quarter mmn Sloper (which name appears on the same 1939 entry), parents married 1909 Cardiff.

Missing believed POW in 1944, later confirmed.

His service record will still be with the Ministry of Defence https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Hello and welcome to RootsChat.

I found the same information you have given in Prisoner of War records. I also found a record in German which lists him on a Register of Foreigners and Persecutees , with details taken from a sick list

William Edward Church born 2.7.17. Penarth , entry dated 12.7.1944 - the entry is marked "krankenbuch" , which I think means sicklist.

I think this could be your man and there is a birth registration which fits :
William E Church Jul 1917 Cardiff 11a 778 , mother's maiden name SLOPER

I can find this man on the 1939 Register with his parents but I am not allowed to give you the details because of copyright. He has an occupation which seems to fit with serving in the RAMC.

Do you have access to the subscription sites to enable to investigate further ?

Edit - you beat me to it Max but I will post anyway as it may help.
