There's a John Hall Boyd born in the 2nd quarter 1891 in Newcastle upon Tyne but he's still there in 1939 so I eliminated him.

I looked at all birth's for John Boyd between 1888 and 1894 and eliminated them one by one and still ended up with the one in Manchester with parents John and Sarah Elizabeth.

The Seaman's Register states that he signed on for 12 years in March 1910 but the right column says he had told a false statement on entry. Wonder if they kicked him out and what for?

Looking at the National Archives seaman's records throws up 2 records for John Boyd in Manchester one born 23rd September 1891 and the other also on Ancestry for 22nd May 1891 so the plot thickens. Someone was lying but who? Or is that the reason the record states he made a false statement.  Did he give the wrong date of birth,  first his correct one and then the made up one.

It's so frustrating that there are pages missing from his records.

I found him in Fermoy Barracks  hospital, Cork  on the 1911 Irish Census. The record states he's 19 and born in England and he's RC.

I spent hours yesterday looking for Mary in 1911 and couldn't find her in Manchester or surrounding areas. I then searched the 1901 census for both of them and found nothing after searching all over the country.

John is so specific on the prison record giving his mother's name and  address so where the heck is she in 1911 and 1901 ??? The mystery deepens.
