Joseph & George Germany - Lexden
« on: Saturday 11 April 20 20:15 BST (UK) »
These two boys I think may be twins they appear on the same page ref of the birth record Volume 4a Page 252.  1852 Reg district Lexden JFM quarter. I can find nothing regarding parentage so am completely stuck. Many thanks

You didn't give a birthyear - it was 1852

You can check if mothers maiden name was the same using the GRO website. If you have ever purchased a cert you will have created a login.  If not - Registration is free as is searching

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

No mothers name is shown so they were illegitimate

Sorry, do you know there is no mothers or fathers name stated on their birth, were they actually twins or just siblings?

If they were siblings - they must have been twins.  Whether they were twins who were not siblings is impossible to tell without buying copies of their birth certs.

If no mothers maiden name is shown on the GRO search  - that is an indication they were illegitimate

There is no guarantee the mother was from Essex - she may have just gone there to give birth

The 1851 for Essex has only one unmarried female entry who was old enough to have a child in 1852 - Susan Germany b 1834

No trace of either George or Joseph under Germany in 1861/71/81

Thanks Carole, Joseph becomes Jarman in the 1881 shows born in west bergholt and marries in 1879 in west bergholt so leads me to think he is this Joseph.  George I don’t know about as this name can be changed into so many different spellings.

When Joseph Jarman married 1 January 1879 no father is listed for him, but the witnesses are
James Jarman and Harriet Jarman.
Joseph wrote his name James and Harriet made their mark.

There’s a george German baptised in Stanway near lexden in 1854 to george and emma German. Might have been baptised as a toddler? No Joseph though.
