Kellys in Ireland
« on: Thursday 16 April 20 19:31 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I love researching family history, however one side of my family has me baffled (irish)

This is the information I have so far and would love for someone to help, I have went through videos on showing me to use irish sites and have searched but its a guessing game.
I have also tried making trees with people i have found but end up not being correct, trying to see if they could possibly be that person.

Patrick Kelly born 1855 (from death and marriage cert)
Born in ireland
Marriage took place in Durham in 1881, to Elizabeth Lockwood.
found in 1891 census in durham with his wife Elizabeth Lockwood and three children.
He died in Ballingry, Fife in 1941.

His parents (stated on his death cert) were called Thomas Kelly and Mary Clyne.
I can't find any information on their deaths, births and if they had any other children.

Any help would be much appreciated, i feel like i am getting nowhere and having time just now with being stuck indoors i was hoping to chip away at it a bit further..

Kind regards
Morgan

Hello Morgan it is difficult without a place of origin in Ireland as we are looking at a period before Civil Registration in 1864 we have to rely on church records prior to then. Looking at various records for the surname Clyne I found it prevalent in the Counties of Leitrim/Roscommon in the 1850's. Kelly name more difficult to research without having a county name.
Maybe Patrick & Elizabeths childrens names could be an indication as there was a "naming pattern" in Ireland whereby children were named after Grandparents.

Is 1891 the earliest census you found him on?
Where was he for 1901 & 1911 census? He may have been more forthcoming about origin on those.
Was he on 1939 Register?
Was Thomas the name of his father on his marriage certificate?
Is it Durham City or County?
