Samuel Joseph Warren Rowles was a policeman for many years with the Gloucestershire Force
When he left the force he became a publican.

In the ‘1939 Register’  he is listed as the landlord & licensee of ‘The Crown Inn’, Bevington,
near Berkeley, Gloucestershire.

DOES THIS PUB STILL EXIST?
DOES ANYONEW HAVE A PICTURE OF THIS PUB FROM THAT PERIOD?

Me neither.  Could have been demolished by now as so many pubs have.  You could try emailing the records office as many authorities take photos of old buildings & streets etc  before they are demolished.

I think it must the beer house ("B H") marked on this map just below the legend "Pottinger's Farm". The Crown was certainly a beer house on the 1901 census.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY PETTY SESSIONS

Before the Mayor (Mr William H Nicholls) in the Chair, Messrs. H G Norman, S Morris and George Matthews.

Warren G ROWLES, The Crown Inn, Bevington, near Berkeley, was summoned for having driven a motor-car without a driving licence on October 12 and on the evidence of P C Witts, he was fined 10/-.  He explained the offence was due to an oversight.
