Have you asked the question on rootschats armed forces boards, it is amazing what they come up with on there

I sort of did, but didn't get terribly far at that time - my father was in a tank regiment, a driver, and was 14/18th Hussars. I know from his photgraphs that time was spent in Egypt, he actually got a lot out of that, almost enjoyed that, a chance to see many temples and such, (he said something about a guard of honour for an Egyptian King, may have been Farouk?) and I think he went through Italy, and ended up in Germany - but I'd hoped to find out when he was where.
May get round to it some time.

Is that possible? I'd understood that my late mother could have done that, but somehow I'd thought I couldn't. Would that tell me where he'd been stationed throughout his time?

Yes it should give all of his military service.
You can apply at the MOD it'll cost £30.
You will need his death cert.
