Dorking Police Station

I know that Dorking Police Station was in Moores Rd (1939) before being downsized to a counter in Pippbrook, according to 1911 census it was then in High St.

Interested in the location of Police Station in the High St.

Old Courthouse, now a dental practice, in 1940’s this was a Police house. Along that part of High St was the Court, under which, had been built an emergency telephone exchange, in case the exchange in London Rd was bombed.

Unable to find old photos of that part of Dorking.

Go through the 1911 schedules and look at what addresses are given for the neighbours.
Simplest and easiest way to do it
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Oops sorry that was the Metropolitan Police.

Have trawled 1911 yet again.
This time I found a name I recognised, finally able to place the Police Station and Cottages.

Dorking Constabulary was an interesting read.

Was it only the Met that said ‘evening all’ ?

as far as I know the only person known for saying 'evening all' was Eric Morecambe.  As his stage name suggests he was from Lancashire.

The Met reference is presumably to PC, later Sergeant, George Dixon (of Dock Green, London, therefore the Met).   Every episode would start and end with Dixon (Jack Warner) speaking directly to camera to describe the storyline to the viewers.  He began with a polite "Good evening, all" and ended with "Good night, all".  I don't think he ever omitted the "Good":  he was never in that much of a hurry.
