Nelson Street Birmingham
« on: Tuesday 05 May 20 14:08 BST (UK) »
I would like to find out who was living in Nelson Street in 1829. An ancestor died here. She was 15 and her brother was 6. They had been orphaned in 1826 so I would love to try to find out who they could have been living with. I believe their previous home to have been in Kenyon Street. Their surname was Kendall and their mother's maiden name was Trever.
Has anyone got any bright ideas for me please?

I can only suggest looking at local baptism registers to see if those mention a street, before and after the 1826 deaths.

All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

John Kendall    Married   29 Oct 1821   Birmingham, St Martin   Mary Trever

Father a Gold Beater, abode Kenion St./ Kenyon St.

John Turner Kendall   29 Jul 1823   19 Apr 1824   John, Mary

Phebe Trever Kendall   22 Oct 1813   21 Jan 1822       John,Mary
Transcribed Sever

Mary Kendall   Burial age 37   26 Nov 1826   Birmingham, St Mary   Wife of John

Phebe Frever Kendall   abt 1814   8 Mar 1829   Birmingham, St Mary   John,Mary

Daughter of John & Mary, Nelson St. No mention that Mary was deceased.

There were two subsequent marriages of Widower John, from the signature on his marriage to Mary, I would guess the marriage below was most likely but the record is not great. No children in Birmingham?

Thank you for your suggestions. This is the correct family. Although I have found the marriage of John to Elizabeth I haven't found the image of their certificate. Are you looking on Ancestry of another source? There seem to be several John Kendalls around in the area at this time. I haven't managed to find John and Elizabeth on the 1841 census to try and help see if this is the correct John Kendall. I shall look further.

I spent some time looking at the John Kendall and Elizabeth Rae connection and found someone who had them in their tree and had done a DNA test. He isn't a match to my husband and he had Elizabeth born in 1806 whereas I found one in 1783. The later would have been a better age match to John and would explain why there were no children. I haven't been able to find either of them on the 1841 census to see where they lived.
So at the moment I am still going with John having also died in 1826.
John Kendall (son) can be found on the 1841 census as a gold beater's apprentice living in Ladywood.

Yes that's the one I found. I also found that he was buried at St Martin, Birmingham. His age of 41 was around the age I was expecting. There seem to be a lot of John Kendalls around at this time and not easy to positively identify if it is the correct one!
Many thanks for your continued help. ;)
