Isabella Lindsay born Pottie
« on: Thursday 28 May 20 15:33 BST (UK) »
In the 1851 Census, Isabella Lindsay is 64 and receiving Necewing(?) Parish Relief, in Pitlessie, Cults, Fife. She was born Isabella Pottie in Carnock on August 26 1785, had married Andrew Lindsay in Edinburgh on April 18 1814. She had 5 children with Andrew, and ends up back in Cults as a poor old lady. Her husband Andrew has disappeared from the scene. He was a Blacksmith. At least 3 of her children migrate to South Australia in 1865 and she makes the voyage with her son Andrew and his family. She died in 1866. I am keen to find any records pertaining to her experience in receiving Poor Relief and would love to find out what happened to Andrew.
Thanks in anticipation.

Have you found her in the 1861 census?

Looking on FreeCEN, for 1851 they have her as Isabella Lindsay/Smith, "receiving parish relief", and her birthplace is given as Kettle, Fife.

I have 41, 51 and 61 Census results as well as a birth record and marriage record. She was born to Aytoun Pottie and Elisabeth Mudie on 26th August 1785 at  Carnock, Fife, so maybe Isabella Lindsay/Smith is not the one, although the age is close. At the 1841 and 1861 Censuses, she is in Stirling, which is where her children are living.
