Obituary: Harold Barr, Memphis
« on: Wednesday 03 June 20 12:32 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be able to locate the obituary of HAROLD BARR in a Tennessee, (probably Memphis) paper?  The date of publication is 7 Oct 1923.  His wife was LENA and he was buried in Elmwood cemetery, Memphis.

Thanking you in advance for your attention to this request.  ----Liz

I looked earlier and found nothing. this time I got:
From Newspapers.com obituary index. It looks like an OCR scan:

Name:    Harold Barr
Gender:    Male
Death Age:    53
Birth Date:    abt 1870
Residence Place:    Nlemphis
Death Date:    Abt 1923
Burial Place:    Elmurrod
Obituary Date:    7 Oct 1923
Obituary Place: Memphis, Tennessee, United States of America
Spouse:    Lena Tintr
Child:    Sarah Kilen
Siblings:
Chariem It Ilarr
J C Cook

I don't have access to newspapers.com, but when I click on the link to it from ancestry, it usually tells me what paper the obit was in. This time it just said:
"This page is pending publication, has been removed or moved to a new location."

If subscribers are getting that same message, then that is why no one was able to post it for you.

I would try the Memphis library and see if they have it on microfilm or digitized. Or it they can tell you where to find it otherwise.

Thank you OOH.

That is where I got my information.  I contacted RJ to see if he could pull it up, but they don't show any Memphis papers.  I'm going to send to the TN State Archives for a copy.  I really think this is my guy--I know his wife was Lena, last name unknown.  Didn't know he had any offspring, so would like that name, the J C Cook is his bro-in-law, and the other sibling is a Barr, not llarr--just don't know which one.  Hopefully I'll get some answers in a couple of weeks.

Thank you so much for your time and interest in this request.----Liz

UPDATE!!!!!!

Sent to the TN State Archives for the obit.  Despite the Ancestry Newspapers.com Obit Index stating that the obit appeared in the 7 Oct 1923 issue of the Commercial Appeal (Memphis), they looked from Oct 1st to Oct 28th in that paper and couldn't find it.  At $10 a search, that will be the end of my searching for this obit.

Thanks to RJ and OHH who submitted suggestions.

Thank you Sandra for those---I didn't have them.  My interest in Harry C Barr is the fact that many online trees have him dying in 1912.  I've haven't found anything that supports that date and instead found the 1923 death certificate and references in the obit index that lead me to believe that the 1923 date is the correct one.

As Oldohiohome offered up:  modified by me with the probable ocr corrections
Name:    Harold Barr
Gender:    Male
Death Age:    53
Birth Date:    abt 1870
Residence Place:    Nlemphis  Memphis
Death Date:    Abt 1923
Burial Place:    Elmurrod  Elmwood
Obituary Date:    7 Oct 1923
Obituary Place: Memphis, Tennessee, United States of America
Spouse:    Lena Tintr
Child:    Sarah Kilen
Siblings:
Chariem It Ilarr Charles R Barr
J C Cook  may be Mrs. J C Cook (Janie S Cook)

I would love to know the wife's last name and the name of the child.
