Hi Brian,

Just saw that your post was the only one without a reply!  It's nice to get even one reply!

Just wondering why did you post on the Cork board?   Did you know the Greer family had a connection to Cork?

Do you have a full tree on ancestry?    I can see James married a lady who was born in Ballincollig, Co. Cork.   There was a large army base there.

If you have a specific question we'd be happy to answer it.

thank you so much for the reply !. i knew it was a long shot so it would have been a big ask.
yes james greer was in the royal artillery,we think he married in 1846 in Woolwich. he married Elizabeth Wilson who was born in 1823 at Ballincollig barracks "you were correct" james gives hid father profession as watchmaker. i have a tree on ancestry. b ap g pritchard hughes family tree. the connections back from james greer and elizabeth are all assumed based on dna connections "very faint matches !. i have been unable to find thomas anywhere and undersatnd part of the records have been destroyed. james brother john was born in dublin parish of st george in 1813. so guess thomas the father was from the same area but totally unfouded, so far!!!. thanks again any light you could shed would be very very much appreciated. thank you/diolch y fawr. brian

I did have a look for any new information on Thomas Greer but no luck unfortunately.

I couldn't believe how many Greers there had been in Cork.  Some of the trees on Ancestry have
Sligo and Newry Co. Down N.Ireland as two possible birth locations but it is difficult to find proof of either.

Sorry I couldn't be any help to you.
