So far, there is no mention of being in the hospitality trade.

They had timber businesses, and the son was not able to work as is an invalid, according to that article, so they could have invested the money into owning a pub/hotel.  What other money would the son be receiving?

That might be true, Chempat.  However, as the original post suggested that the family were running the hotel/pub, I would be expecting there to be some reference to that in one of the articles that are available.  I am continuing to look through newspaper articles to see if there is any reference made at a later date.

The wife was meant to be running the pub in 1945, after both deaths, so information might not have been known, if an investment.

Wife left a will in 1974, as Phyllis Maud Trenery.

The article suggests that Mrs Trenery allowed the accused to stay at her house.  I wonder if perhaps she was used to taking Paying Guests, and running a form of B & B, rather than a hotel as such?  I know immediately post war, my great aunt would periodically let out one of her rooms but it wasn't a hotel as such. (Not explaining this very well - need another coffee!!)

I was wondering why she moved to Gautby, which is a little distance from Wigtoft (30 miles).  I can see a Park View in Wigtoft, but not in Gautby.  (Just trying to check the background).
