Clarification of Mother please *COMPLETED*
« on: Friday 12 June 20 14:45 BST (UK) »
I have a transcript from FindMyPast for the baptism of Harriet NEWINGTON of Burwash on 25 Apr 1824.

Harriet's mother is Harriet and her father Samuel.

In the 1841 census this Samuel aged 45 is living in the village at Burwash and is a Shoemaker.  His wife is given as Ann aged 30.  In the 1851 Census Samuel now 63 and a Master ShoeMaker and his wife is noted as Ann M aged 45.

I am unable to locate a marriage for Samuel with a Harriet around the time of Harriet's baptism 1824 +/- ? and hoping for some assistance please.

As yet I have not located Samuel's marriage with Ann M either but working on that one now.

There's a Burwash burial for a Harriett Newington aged 30, on 3 October 1828.

Possible marriage at Lewes in 1836: Samuel Newington and Ann Maria Bourne

The only likely Sussex marriage seems to be that of a Samuel Newington and a Harriet Boberds? at South Malling (which is Lewes) on 10 April 1820.  They were both of the parish and he was a bachelor (no information given about her).

Hope this helps,  Pheno

Thanks so much Shaun J & Pheno.

Yes that does help a lot and it explains the age difference between Samuel and Ann.
