Fold3 - can't access pension detail
« on: Tuesday 16 June 20 17:19 BST (UK) »
I am trying to see the source record for Alfred William Ward's pension naming his wife and children  (children and wife now deceased).

I can see the indexed info through Ancestry but cannot get past the Fold3 screen.

The reference I am getting is 184/0970/WAR-WAR.  He was killed at Arras on 23 Jul 1916.

Can anyone help me untangle this please?

Pam

Unfortunately you won't be able to access records on Fold3 unless you take out a subscription.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Yes his wife is Rose, Rose Ward, but the Pension records shows the two young children correctly, but shows Rose as Rose Johnson.

So I am trying to see the original in case it is mis-transcribed, since I cannot find a marriage for the widow Rose to a Mr Johnson.

Would also to like to see if there is any address given, and the date of the record.

Pam

I do have a full Worldwide Sub for Ancestry, which I hoped would include this access.   ???

Alfred William Ward married a Rose Crutchfield in the September quarter of 1907 in the Marylebone district. They had two children, Alfred Norman Francis (born 12.3.09) and Olive May (born 21.2.10).
The 1911 census records that son Alfred Norman Francis was staying with his uncle William Francis and his family. No trace found for Olive May. Parents Alfred William and Rose were living in the household of Fred Williams and his family at 161 Dynevor Road, Stoke Newington, London. He is working as a milk carrier. His entry shows that he and Rose have been married for 3 full years and that they had 2 children, both living.

Rose remarried in 1918 to a Peter N Faust, the marriage took place in the High Wycombe district. Peter Faust died in 1920. She remarried again in 1922 to a Richard Thomas Johnson, the marriage took place in the Hendon district of London. The 1939 register shows Rose living at 49 London Road, High Wycombe. The pension card gave Rose's address as 49 Totteridge Road, High Wycombe -- Totteridge Road is just around the corner to London Road. The pension card gives Rose's date of birth as 5.9.1885 and the date of birth shown on the 1939 register for Rose Johnson is also 5.9.1885

I think this gives you your answer.
