Baptism for Thomas Frater
« on: Wednesday 17 June 20 07:07 BST (UK) »
Has anyone ever been able to find a baptism for Thomas Frater born abt 1769. Possible parents David Frater and Dorothy Allison. He married Isabella Weddle born abt 1771, Abt 1796 possibly Ford, Northumberland.
I have looked on ancestry and near every tree has Thomas as son of David and Dorothy and born 1769, but as yet I have not seen a baptism or marriage record for him or anything that says he is the son of David and Dorothy.

I know both Thomas and Isabella died Bamburgh, and all their children I have  but would like something solid on his birth.

Thanking you all in Advance
Christine

I can’t see any evidence for his parents but I’ve put below some notes so others do not have to repeat, even though they will not be news to you.

Have you tried to locate Probate records for his putative parents?

Death age 69 in 1839 buried 19 Apr 1839 at St Aidan Bamburgh gives date of birth abt 177O.
GRO index confirms age as 69 for Thomas FRATER death q2 1839 Belford Union 25 151.

Familysearch shows children to him and Isabell(a) WEDDLE
Thomas bap 8 Sep 1797 Kirknewton
George bap 22 Dec 1798 Kirknewton
Mary bap 23 Jun 1800 Kirknewton
Jane bap 23 Apr 1802 Kirknewton
James 24 Mar 1804 Kirknewton
John bap 10 Jan 1806 Kirknewton
David bap 12 Sep 1807 Kirknewton
Isabella bap 11 May 1809 Kirknewton
Patrick Alison bap 2 Jul 1811 Kirknewton (this middle name may be significant)
Mathew bap 19 Aug 1813 Kirknewton
Robert Allen bap 11 Feb 1816 Kirknewton (The middle name may be significant)

The above is mentioned on the Find A Grave site but also says his parents were David and Dorothy (Allison) FRATER and looks to me like someone may have been adding what they thought were family details ad this is not what was inscribed on the stone.

Stone says Thomas as age 70 years; can’t read when his wife died or her age. Mentions death of a daughter Isabella. Nothing about his parents nor all the other children.

I see that Thomas FRATER appears in 139 trees on Ancestry but so what. One person may have made a guess as to his parents and all the others have likely just copied the error. If I’m wrong then they can come forward and explain their source(s).

Yes totally agree with you, no sources and it appears they have just plucked out a set of parents and everyone has run with it. :(

Thank You for posting above

On the offchance you don't already have it, there is a will for a David Frater of "Flee-up" in the county of Northumberland (Kirknewton) in the North East Inheritance database (pre 1858 wills)
http://familyrecords.dur.ac.uk/nei/data/intro.php

The Database links to images on Family Search and mentions a son David Frater, so this could possibly be the Grandad of the Thomas whose baptism you are looking for?

There are another couple of Frater wills which mention Kirknewton.

Thanking you so much Trish  and Boo, I do have both of your information....  Just trying  to connect to dots  or in this case  the right kids to the right parents. I have no doubt they are all connected but just in what order  would be nice to know.

Would be great if all 139 tree's on ancestry are right, but I would still love some kind of source

Thank You all
