The Davis family

According to the 1911 census William and Laura Davis had 6 children, 4 living and 2 had died, having problems finding the sixth child. Spent nearly all yesterday looking though the census and the GRO births with no result. Need a new pair of eyes.

William Davis 1851-1924 Bristol, married Laura Cross 1851-1918, in 1870 Bristol.

Have you found anything at all for the 6th child, have looked at deaths for the same year you think the child was born , it might not have a birth registered if  it died soon after birth

I can find no record for the 5th child. Even looked on familysearch for a baptism etc.  Thought even children that died at birth or afterwards had to be registered.

Is Sylvia definitely one of yours? On the GRO index, no MMN is given.

My great grandparents had a child who died at 2 days old in 1870, only the death was registered.

Yes that is a possibility, I have looked though the deaths and there are quite a number of children who had died during that time.  Pity the  mother's maiden name is not recorded as on the birth registrations.

I think after 1875 births had to be registered, prior to that they got away with it sometimes by not registering
