Bertie Arlow - Banbridge - First wife
« on: Thursday 18 June 20 15:53 BST (UK) »
Looking into a Bertie Arlow Bn 12th March 1914 from Banbridge, County Down.
He married a Wilhelmina Isobel Cromie Bn 23rd October 1927 also from Banbridge.
Marriage Date unknown to me.

Prior to Marrying Wilhelmina he had a previous wife and the story goes that during the 2nd world war (1939 - 1945) she left him running away with an American G.I soldier.
I have no details on the first wife, no name DOB etc. Nothing to work with. Nothing on the soldier either.

I have checked ancestry.com and Irish genealogy Websites and so far have drawn a blank trying to trace any details of the first wife,
Any help or advice appreciated
Bryan

What year did he marry Wilhelmina?  What marital status is shown for him on the marriage cert?

Were there any children born to the first marriage - if so - when was the last child born?  Did she take the children with her?

A Bertie Arlow married a Mary McKenney on 27 September 1943, the marriage was registered in Belfast and is accessible via the GRONI website if you think it may be relevant (pay to view):

I don’t have a marriage date for Wilhelmina and Bertie
As far as I’m aware there were no children to the first marriage.
There were 4 children to the union with Wilhelmina. I have there details
Sorry I know it’s not a lot to work with.

Thanks to all who replied. Checked the GRONI record and seen the marriage certificate.
It is the correct person - Mary McKenney
Thanks again

Just asking out of curiosity, was he a fireman at all?  For I'm getting back several newspaper search 'hits' for a Robert Arlow who served with the Royal Artillery before joining Belfast Fire Brigade in 1939, then served time in the RAF, then as Station Officer in Bangor County Down... later Fire Chief in Derry.

Yes that is him. He made fire chief, was a fireman during the Belfast blitz.
