Hello,

I'm hoping that someone could help me to find the place and date / year of death of Sarah Primmer who was born in Stretton en le Field in 1808. I know that Sarah Primmer spent some time (at least a few months) living in the village of Shackerstone in 1830. I have a document which makes reference to this. I can't find any trace of her after that.

Sarah Primmer also spent a few years living in South Staffordshire in the 1820s. As a very young child, Sarah and her parents lived in Measham for a while. Her parents names were Edward and Elizabeth. Sarah had two children. As far as I know, she didn't marry.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hello,

The two children (twin girls) were born in Shackerstone in December 1830. Their names were Susannah and Mary Primmer.

Welcome to RootsChat

So baptisms at Ashby de la Zouch - 30 December 1830 - daughters of Sarah Primer of Ashby, Servant.

Noted as Twinns (sic) :)

Hello,

Thank you very much. I didn't know that Sarah was a servant. I knew that the twins were christened in nearby Ashby de la Zouch, rather than Shackerstone. They were born in the House of Industry (which I believe is a small workhouse) in Shackerstone. It seems that Sarah became pregnant in South Staffordshire (now part of the Black Country).

Apologies for this, but I'm intrigued  :-[

So the twins were born in Shackerstone, House of Industry, but baptised in Ashby with mother stated to be "of" Ashby at that time - OK so only about 8 miles separating the two venues.  :-\

Just wondering where you have found the additional information related to Sarah.

Just being nosy really, sorry  :-X

Hello,

Thank you for your interest. I have a copy of an 'Order of Filiation' from Leicestershire Records Office. It gives some information regarding Sarah's answers to the questions which she was asked by two reverends and justices of the peace regarding the twins' paternity. She named the father as an agricultural labourer from Ettingshall, Staffordshire and he was interviewed and declared the 'reputed' father and fined. He was the same age as her and they obviously knew each other, but he vehemently denied that he was their father, so who knows. Either way, she was 'removed' from Staffordshire back to her official place of settlement to give birth.

On another point relating to the church in Shackerstone: I believe that during this period, the vicars often had curacies elsewhere, so baptisms often took place in Ashby.

Morning Everyone,

I just wanted to ask whether anyone could advise me whether deaths in workhouses during the 1830s were sometimes unrecorded or recorded incorrectly. I have some information regarding Sarah Primmer (born 1808), but I'm struggling to find when and where she died. I'm trying to find out why there is seemingly no record of her death.  :-\

Thank you.
