John and Ellen Carveth. St Agnes
« on: Friday 19 June 20 21:37 BST (UK) »
John Carveth (28) married Ellen Osborne (24) on 13 Nov 1879 at St Agnes . The groom was probably baptised  on  2 May 1852 at St Agnes, the son of John  and Mary Ann. The bride, daughter of John and Jane of St Agnes, was born Jul- Sept 1856.
In 1881 Ellen was living  alone ( Head, married) in  Goonown, St Agnes, close to her family home of 1871. I have been unable to trace John, or his prior death, and that is the last time I can find any record of Ellen.
John was a miner and it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that they emigrated,  but where? Any help to discover their destiny will be greatly appreciated

Ellen Welsh death in Truro Mar 1897 age 40

No idea what happened to first husband if this was the right Ellen, but if the marriage in 1883 shows her father as John Osborne it must be her.

Thanks, Milliepede. That looks good.
Lavinia (1852) and Jane (1854) were Ellen's sisters.
Strange there is no sign of John's death.

Ages a little bit out and strange that relationships so imprecise. Will have to check out 1901 to see if there are any children. Hope this will confirm Ellen's identity. Do not want to have to buy certificate.

PS Just noticed her death in 1897!

Maybe she and first husband just parted ways but would be good to find him.

I checked his parents and siblings but he doesn't seem to be with them  :-\

Could this be him? :-\
Cornishman, 28 Sep 1882

FUNERAL OF A CORNISMAN IN MYSORE, INDIA.
On the 29th of last month the funeral of John Carveth took place at the Mysore Camp. The deceased was from St. Agnes, was 30 years of age, and was much respected as an able and steady miner. His superintendent ( Mr. Fitz-Maurice ) speaks of him as an excellent man. Carveth died of inflammation attended with fever, and every attention was paid him by his officers and companions, and Dr. White (who resides on the mine) was constantly in attendance on him. The burial service of the Methodist church and a short address were given by the Rev. Mr. Eastlake (also a Cornishman,) from Bangalore, and hymns were sung at the house of the deceased and at the graveside.
The following Cornish men attended the funeral...
long list from seven mines

Jon, what an excellent find! Assuming  the age and place of birth are accurate (quite an assumption) then there is every prospect that  that is my man. It would certainly answer a lot the questions surrounding him. Interesting that Ellen remarried in 1883. Perhaps she knew something.
Coincidentally another mining ancestor was working, and died, in Mysore at much the same time. It seems John Taylor and Co were recruiting in Devon/ Cornwall around 1795/80.
