Trevor Leslie Ritchie
« on: Saturday 20 June 20 20:24 BST (UK) »
Hi, help wanted please for a close friend. Trevor was born c1928 in South Africa and believe to have died 1999 in Australia. My friend believes he had at least one daughter named M******. We are trying to establish as to whether he married in Australia or South Africa and possible other children. His father was Maurice Leslie/Lesley Roper Ritchie and mother Ethel Maria Lavita who married in South Africa and are known to be deceased. If anything can be found we would be most grateful. Also please pm me if any sensitive information is found re living persons etc.

Thank you

John

Hi
What is the source of your belief that this man is deceased?

There are many living people in many localities across the various jurisdictions that make up Australia who were born in 1928 or earlier, and in my experiences mostly that generation are very careful of their own personal privacy and of the personal privacy of their immediate families and friends.

I wonder if there s a possibility that somewhere along the sharing of the query there has been a chance that S.A. has been mistakenly read as South Australia v South Africa.... perhaps back many decades ago, before its withdrawal from the Commonwealth.

Each jurisdiction has its own laws that restrict public access for non historical bdm registrations .... So for example in NSW the general public cannot access marriage records that occurred less than 50 years ago.  Some jurisdictions have  restrictions for the first 75 years .... and of course in each jurisdiction their parliaments have made laws so tgat there are various  restrictions for birth and for death registrations too.  At one time, earlier this century, there was positive action to 'harmonise' all these various laws and regulations and practices but that process has ground to a stop.

Have you discounted this arrival?
Arrived Adelaide per Orontes 10 June 1961
Item details: AP306/1, ORONTES 10/6/61 RITCHIE

Adding: May be able to get the Orontes  passenger list through some members of this forum http://www.shipsandharbours.com/picture/number2916.html
...“I have dinner menu from the night of the equator crossing also full passenger list for the 9 May 1961 migrant trip Tilbury - Australia arriving Sydney 15 June.”

Hi John  :)

He appeared to arrive alone as no female listed.

Search https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/BasicSearch.aspx
using Ritchie, Orontes, 1961 and the passenger list will display.

He died in 1999 in South Australia.  There is a entry on the index for newspaper death notices on
http://www.genealogysa.org.au/resources/online-databases.html

and he was cremated at Centennial Park on
https://www.centennialpark.org/memorial-search/trevor-leslie-ritchie-239009/

There was no funeral notice according to
https://savill.collections.slsa.sa.gov.au/savill-R.html

I suggest you contact the Ask a Librarian at the State Library of South Australia for a copy of the death notice.

Again thank you for further info. I wonder if Alan Fergus was Trevor's son?
