Hi I lived at Breedon 1984 to 1994. During that time the old chapel (opposite the war memorial) was bought by someone named Archer, he converted it into a private dwelling. Also during this time I had some old  'electricity board' maps that referred to the village having electricity installed, I'm sure we passed then on to the parish council.

The war memorial was built from Breedon stone which my great grandfather John Gillies Shields owned.  He owned all of Breedon.  I lived there for a year and now lives abt 10 miles away.

Someone on this site mentioned the book by F. Taylor.  I've just found out that a copy of it is at Leicester University.  I have sent them an email to see if I can get it out on loan.  I am doing a lot of research about Breedon because my great grandfather was John Gillies Shields who was the lord of the manor there, as well as Melbourne and Isley Walton.

It would be great if anyone has any history of Breedon that they could pass onto me.

My go to site for old maps is The National Library of Scotland site, I also like their transparency overlay feature which allows two images to be blended together by making a 'modern' photo of the area to be bended onto a map. This allows features shown on the old maps to be located in the landscape as it looks today.

Nichols, A History of the Antiquities of the County of Leicester, Volume 3 Part 2, pages 685-692 covers Bredon, pages 693-694 Bredon Priory & pages 695-704 the Priory register (much of this in Latin).
