Hello,
On a census return, I have a person whose birthplace is stated as Russian Dwisk. Does anyone know what this signifies? All help appreciated.
                  Many Thanks

Can you post the census reference, please?

First thoughts are that it might be Dvinsk (now Daugavpils, Latvia).

If it’s the Garber family in Cheetham in 1911, they were indeed from Dvinsk.

The children’s births are in the Latvia Births Database at JewishGen. The parents were living in Dvinsk when the 1897 census was taken.
