What does RFKOW stand for?
« on: Sunday 28 June 20 15:52 BST (UK) »
Hi, can anyone help, please?  My father's service record (Royal Artillery) shows that in 1942 he was drafted to RFKOW.  His next move was to join the Royal West African Frontier Force in Africa.  I am being able to find out what most of the abbreviations mean with help from Google but RFKOW has me stumped.

It means nothing.  It is the draft recognition code - call it a voyage number if you like.  A large number of men and units would be gathered together into a draft to travel together by troopship.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you so much, no wonder I couldn't find anything.  The Army records are so full of abbreviations that I assumed this was another one.

If his records are good, before and after the draft entry you may find a "leaving Greenock or Liverpool" on [vessel] and "arriving [West Africa]  which may make it possible to identify the troopship he went on.

It doesn't show ports just embarked and Disembarked dates from the UK to Africa 1942, then India 1943.  It looks like his journey back to the UK from India was on PYTHON.

OPPS just found that PYTHON wasn't a ship but a scheme for returning after four years overseas.
