WWII Flying Jacket
« on: Sunday 28 June 20 19:41 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have a WWII Irvin flying jacket. I have been told it is possible to link the issue number of the jacket to a specific individual, but how do I go about this?

The main label attached to issue Irvin jackets went through a number of changes as the war and post war years progressed.

Normally it contained year of manufacture but no printed issue number.

In later years the WD crowsfoot marking was changed to the AM crown and a stores reference added but this was a general catalogue number rather than specific clothing card issue reference.

If you are lucky then the owner will have added name and service number/personal number in ink - in that case it can be researched further.

Without more description of what you think the issue number you see is - not much more help can be given.

Hi Ross

Thanks for your info.

I've attached a couple of photos of the zip and the label.

The zip is quite clear but the label number is damaged and looks like 014886?0.

Family history suggests who it might belong to but I'm looking for proof.
