Ethel Hibbert b. 1892, dau. of Samuel Hibbert and Annie Prosser
« on: Saturday 04 July 20 16:31 BST (UK) »
Would love to trace Ethel Hibbert, b. 2 Jul 1892, Hulme, Lancs.,  to Samuel Hibbert and Annie Prosser.  Samuel and Annie were married 3 Jan 1892.  Ethel was baptized 31 Jul 1892 at St. Stephen's, Hulme.

Samuel married a second time, to Sarah Ellen Robinson.  He is listed as a bachelor.  I believe this was a bigamous marriage.  The signature matches for both, his father's name and occupation is the same (John, warehouseman).  I have a DNA match to a descendant of this second marriage.  Samuel was my grandfather's first cousin.

After her birth, I can find nothing else on Ethel or her mother.  On the 1939 there are about 8 Ethels born on 2 Jul 1892, but none of them have Hibbert as a maiden name (of course, they could have been widowed or taken a "stepfather's" name).

There is an Ethel Hibbert on a ship's list going to the USA in 1907, right age, but with a little digging I found that she was born in the US and her father was "H. Hibbert".

When Annie married Samuel she was 22, (he was 21), father Richard, Points-man (don't know what that is), she had the same address as Samuel, 30 St. Stephen Street, Salford.
I found an 11 year old Annie with Richard and Mary Ann Prosser in Pendleton-in-Salford in 1881.  Richard was a tacker?  That is the only one I could find that "works".  The family was originally from Worcestershire.  The Prosser surname is not particularly common in Lancashire.
My certificate for Samuel and Annie's marriage gives the witnesses as Samuel Yearsley and Annie Eyle(s) but I notice on the Lancs. Parish Records site it is Annie ROYLE.

Possible birth of Annie Prosser, ref dq 1869 Martley 6c 296 mmn Bruton

Probable parents marriage ref jq 1854 upton on severn 6c 443. Richard Prosser/ Mary Ann Bruton

This would tie in with the 1881 census info. Family easily found in 1871 census.

Trying to find a baptism for Annie now, might have a dob.

John
