Lookup Request for 1939 Census
« on: Monday 06 July 20 15:13 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping someone might be able to help with an address lookup.

Hoping to find out who resided at the following address on 1939 census;

14 Garrards Road, Elmsett, Ipswich, Suffolk

Thanks

In the first place, the 1939 National Register wasn't a census ;D
It was kept updated by the NHS until the 1990s. A census is a snapshot of who was wher on a certain date.

Secondly, we aren't allowed to do lookups, as it is still covered by copyright.

You have to pay a sub to either Ancestry or FindMyPast and do the lookup yourself.

I may be entirely wrong but I think an address search is only possible on FindMyPast

Put Elmsett into Keyword on the 1939 search page, you will then have to just 'trawl' the results.

When was the property built

If you then  put  Garrards in keywords and tick exact it should come up with  that street. But anyone with surname Garrards also comes up

Forget that, it doesn't seem to work on this example. The system worked for me with Bournemouth addresses
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Hmmm, all great suggestions. Thanks everybody. Having looked on Google Maps, I fear it may not have been built in 1939  >:(

That's why it didn't work - it wasn't there in 1939. Just looked on Google maps - the houses look like a 50s or 60s development
