Hello,
Does anybody know anything about Sembourne Hospital, Warminster? It existed in 1962 but googling it doesn't bring up anything at all.
Cheers

Thank you. I am expecting it to be a hospital for older people but did wonder whether it was a psychiatric one. The article doesn't answer that but at least it shows there was such a hospital!

Hi, Brie - just double checking it is Sambourne Hospital rather than Sembourne. It was originally Warminster Workhouse.

Warminster workhouse closed in 1928. In 1930, the premises opened as Warminster Public Assistance Institution, and operated as an old people's home and hospital.
In 1948 the institution became part of the NHS under the name Sambourne Hospital.
The hospital was in use as a geriatric hospital until the mid 1990s.

Thank you all, that's very helpful.
Looks far too nice for a workhouse!
