« on: Thursday 09 July 20 15:43 BST (UK) »
I can read all this document except the word outlined, a field name [...] Sling.

Any suggestions, all I can come up with is Eustace??

TIA

I see

parcel of ground formerly called En Stato Sling

but that would be a strange name...

Let's see what the experts say.  :)

That word is ‘enter’.

The second word in question, I think, is ‘state’.

But the last letter of the second word is 'e'  :-\ The little loop through the top is characteristic.
Compare with the 'e' of the word 'called' just before 'En' in the same line.

State - I believe the last letter is e, not o.
Is it perhaps just a scribal error for Estate, with the piece of land being called Sling?

The Act in question required Catholics to register details of their estates and landholdings, as they were charged double land-tax at this period.

This makes the most sense to me. It's definitely sling as I have that from another source.

Thank you.
