Diary > Friday 10th July
« on: Friday 10 July 20 22:46 BST (UK) »
It was two o' clock when I put the light out last night (or this morning to be precise). I was woken this morning by a friend phoning me to tell me that she wouldn't be joining in the art class Zoom meeting. I hadn't been completely asleep, just starting to wake up but hadn't realised till I looked at the clock just how late it was. Oh well, never mind. Rallied myself round and got ready in time to join in the meeting. The teacher said that they were expecting some building supplies being delivered and as she was alone in the house she'd have to leave the meeting if the delivery arrived. She'd been waiting since 7am and of course it arrived during the meeting, although it was towards the end and the rest of us carried on chatting till the end.

Had some lunch before going for my walk, it had been raining earlier on and there was a heavy shower during the Zoom meeting. It had cleared out nicely and was quite warm but I wasn't sure if it would start again so hung a lightweight jacket through my belt. The birds were swooping around me as I crossed the field, I love to see them. Walked through the woods and set off down the narrow path again but it was quite muddy and the ground undulates a lot, thought that if I slipped along there and went hurtling through the trees it could be a problem! With that thought I turned back and walked around the usual area.

No rain, it was getting sunny and although I knew the wet would stop me doing some things in the garden there were other things I could have a go at out there. Took some cuttings from a couple of plants that are in a container in the front garden and just did some general tidying up. The sun was getting hotter so I changed into something lighter. Later on it clouded up and there were a few spots of rain so I packed up and came indoors.

Salmon for tea with a jacket potato and salad with lettuce from the garden. Also included some avocado, not from the garden! Strawberries to follow.

Apparently a lot of people have put on weight during the lockdown, I think I've actually lost some, my jeans all seem a bit loose. I think I'm probably in a minority in more ways than one, I don't want to lose any weight. Perhaps it's due to all the extra walking, in normal times I exercise about three times a week whereas now it's every day.

My shopping friend had texted me yesterday to see if I needed anything, I didn't as I'd just had a grocery delivery. She phoned tonight for a chat, we talked about her moving house, she sold her house for the asking price the first day she put it on the market, first time buyers. She put in an offer for another property the next day, no chain, everything is going ahead. Amazing that things can happen so fast during these strange times. It was lovely to have a chat, cheered me up.

Hope things have been okay today for everyone, some nice weather forecast for the weekend,

A beautiful bright sunny morning on a day of 3 birthdays in close family!
Out early to grab good bread from the baker. Every time I type this I think of Caroline's husband doing it the proper way and I feel bad for being lazy, but the artisan bakers do need the trade, so I shall hide behind that excuse!
Walking through fairly empty streets I noticed a group of house martins and also some swifts flying high in the sky, feeding off insects I assume.  I always wonder where the swifts roost, and I walked into a barrier while gazing upwards trying to find the place.  Fortunately only one Dad and 2 little lads were watching to fall about laughing at the mad old lady in dark glasses!!Called in on SiL on the way back to deliver her gift, but couldn't go in and have a cuppa as planned due to H having an annoying cough again, and as we don't know what is the matter we better not expose her to risk.  Having said that, I feel mightily exposed, and somewhat stressed by it.Returned home to enjoy a coffee and read through the RC posts.Group video call with chums in Cumbria.  One of them bought a vintage/antique dolls house during the week and we had some fun being given a guided tour.During the afternoon there was no wind unusually, so I was able to sit out on the balcony and read.  It seems like ages since I could do that, and it was really pleasant. It turned out to be a really sunny evening so our walk was quite enjoyable despite a lot of people around. We kept out of their way as far as possible. There are still two cruise liners at anchor in the Bay, and I was delighted to note that the broken and deserted house martin nest has been mended and there is a bird in residence again.  Watched a lovely nature programme about The Fens on TV.
Glad you had a positive day Roobarb.I may as well post now before I stagger off to bed, extremely late as I have been talking to the birthday girl and her family in Oz.

Roobarb it is nice to imagine your walk with the birds swooping around and going through woodland.  It is a shame that the narrow path was too muddy but perhaps this might be drier this weekend.  You mention that you are walking much more now.  I was thinking a while back that more people seem to be out walking in my area since all the restrictions were put in and daily exercise became a little bit of freedom.  I have increased my walking too.  I buy a monthly bus pass for work  and used to get the bus everywhere but now if I am just going to my local town I just walk.

Mowsehowse, I hope your husband's cough gets better soon.  Re: the vintage doll's house - did this come complete with furniture?  That is good to hear that a bird is in residence in the martin nest again.

I wonder if we will be hearing from Caroline soon about how the trip to the hairdresser went.

I spent a good bit of time caught up with RC yesterday morning until I realised I was suddenly getting on late with regards to meeting up with my brother and sister in law who I haven't seen for a good while.  The plan originally had been to go for a seafront walk over the links however, they changed it to a cafe trip in North Shields on account of weather reports not being very good.
It was good to see them again and to have a good chat.  Service in the cafe was very good and safety measures were in place.
Afterwards, we walked to the bus stop near the library.  it was lashing down with rain at that point.  I was very interested to see through the window that several staff I recognised seemed to be hard at work.  I could be wrong but at a glance it looks like they might be arranging walkways.  Sister in law pointed out that there are now spaced out queue 'footprints' outside the library.  I think this all might augur well for a possible reopening even though nothing is on their website as yet.

In the evening I went back on RootsChat and was delighted to see some photos posted from Mowsehowse on my quilting thread.  I felt tired early as I had awoken very early but I fitted in some removing of paper templates from my own quilt top before bed.

Just to add that I got an email today from one of the bus companies I use.  They say they are now going to introduce 'zig zag' seating as they now feel this is safe enough to do so.

Lovely to read all your posts.... I'm much later than usual... it now being Saturday morning...

Roobarb- it's interesting you saying you've lost weight, I have too, can't really afford to loose any more or will need a whole new wardrobe! Couple of other friends have said the same and I think all this daily exercising is helping to keep people a lot fitter... yet the newspapers report people have put weight on during lockdown! Good to hear you're enjoying your garden in all weathers! How's tge painting coming along?

Mowsehowse- sorry to hear your H had developed a cough, hopefully nothing to serious and will soon go. Don't feel guilty for not baking your own bread... if you've got an artisan bakery I'll bet they sell some lovely breads..
I did have a little giggle at the thought of you busily staring into the sky and bumping into the barrier.... so long as you didn't hurt yourself... good job it wasn't a lamp post!

RTL - nice for you to meet up with your family and enjoy a visit to the cafe...hope you find your library will be opening up soon... doesn't look like ours will be at the moment sadly..

Regarding the 'Wednesday Chat' that has appeared on ToT started by me..... I have absolutely no idea how it got there and I'm not aware of typing the title ..... I'm now quite worried that I wouldn't remember such an action....

My diary for Friday

I was woken by my phone pinging... despite being on silent... it was 7.30 and I thought I don't really want to be awake yet... but I had a quick look to see who it was... my daughter... 'are you awake mum' .. well I wasn't but am now! We talked about meeting them next w/e at a NT place and apparently it's a Friday they release the times to book, so she decided to get on it early.. she was suggesting we met at Stowe gardens, we've been many times but they've not.. it's a lovely place lots of follys and big open spaces for the boys to run around in and it's about an hour away from us both.
Of course when you log in you're in a queue so just have to wait... wait and wait some more... she managed to book ... I kept waiting.. suddenly I'm in go to tickets only to find the version of safari on this ,old, iPad isn't sufficient...now have to do it on lap top so of course I've lost my space in the queue!  More waiting, she also logsback in to see who will get there first to book .. finally at 10.15 I'm in and booked... what a palaver. So my morning start wasn't quite how I'd planned. But it's all good and it will be lovely to spend the day with them on Friday next week... hope it's decent weather!
OH is trying to do his bread making whilst all this is going on... hope it's going to be ready in time before going to the hairdressers!
Friend phoned we had long chat... she'd had her hair cut yesterday and was pleased to have had it done... more flights opening up at Gatwick still only one terminal open though.. flights about 60-80% full she said..airport shops starting to open up too.
Decided to try get the scrub tops finished as it was now too late to do the things I'd intended to do!
Lunch finally, lovely bread and cheese, pickles, celery and an apple.
OH drives me to hairdresser as now short of time ... finally arrive!
Only two stylists mine and one other, both wearing aprons, gloves and visors..hand sanitiser on entry, put on plastic overall, then another for round the shoulders, chair sanitised before sitting down... I didn't wear a mask as it would have got hair colouring over it and remembering what RTL had said about hair falling between it and your face I didn't fancy that... two hours later came out feeling great, looked much better and pleased I'd not backed out of going!
By time we got back it was gone 5pm and we had neighbours coming for drinks at 6pm!... OH had swept patio whilst I was out.. so we moved the table put 2 chairs... another small table and two chairs and another two with small table all nicely spaced out... weather looking a bit iffy but not cold.
We all sat and chatted, so nice almost normal.... started to get spots of rain... then heavier... all cushions in and we went into the conservatory, fortunately it's big enough for us to be spaced out and we left the doors open... they all finally departed about 9pm... quite a few empty bottles of wine on the table and none of us had had dinner... it was pre dinner drinks! I kept filling up the nibbles! We had chilli and jkt potato....
retired to bed exhausted and fell asleep straight away!

The whole day seemed to be up against the clock but enjoyable and felt almost like life normally was before all this nonsense!

RTL: Good news about the bus company change of strategy; hopefully there will always be sufficient room for you again.
The dolls house came with masses of interesting furniture and other accessories, such as a lead rat, a possible netsuke and a delightful coalport coffee pot, that could only be used as a sales advert in mini scale, but is very gorgeous.
One mini sized bureau has a name pencilled on the back, and said friend has done a little research to try and find the original owner.
The house also has a name painted on the base.
Friend is trying to make contact with possible relatives and also to retrieve paperwork involved in the most recent change of hands before her purchase.

Caroline, so glad you did go to the hairdresser, and the process certainly sounds Covid secure, and you must have felt like a film star for your drinks gathering.
How lovely to have a family visit to look forward to, but what a performance trying to get tickets!
It is a bit crazy how tickets "go live" like it is Glastonbury or something!!
We have booked tickets to visit the zoo next week, (which was going to be my birthday treat,) so I hope it stays fine for us both.  :D

Mowsehowse- it certainly was lovely to have it done.... film star not so sure but now I have a duty to keep,it looking nice after weeks of just wash and dry!
Hope you have a lovely visit to the zoo for your birthday treat and yes 🤞For the weather!
The dolls house sounds wonderful... neighbour is resoring one he was given... its a Tudor house so he's done lots of research to get furniture correct and now his wife is going to do some tapestries to put on the walls... hopefully it will have a grand unveiling when he's finished it as none of us has been allowed to see it yet...we're all waiting with baited breath as he's always talking about what he's doing to it!

Have a lovely day today... sunny here... should of had drinks tonight! Ah well we all enjoyed ourselves... have to confess to feeling a bit fragile this morning 🙂 An hours Yogalates should sort that out!

I have done similar research for 1:24 scale, which is very small.
I am envious of the grand unveiling!  :D

A bit fragile..... well, once in a while..... ;)

Have a good day All.

Yes well... an hours Yogalates soon sorted out my fragile state! As you say once in a while! Excitement of socialising.... must say I was quite shocked by numbers of empty bottles 😬😱😁.... there were six of us!

Regarding the unveiling we've been waiting for quite some time... I'm talking years as opposed to months... coukd all be dead and buried before he thinks it's good enough for us all to see.... which would be hard as he's older than the rest of us by a few years!
