Worcester- Pullen- Shrubberies - completed- thanks ;)
« on: Wednesday 24 August 05 16:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,

what I am looking for is a bit vague but I need to find out who was living at the address of The Shrubberies, Shrub Hill, Worcester in late 1800s.

We think it may be a family of Pullens (not sure of spelling) or Stephens (father=Robert).

Would be very grateful if anyone could findthis for me.
Thanks

Sorry, I can't make much of this but here is what I found.

The 1871 census has 1 Shrub Hill on Rg10-3050/98 and 23 Shrub Hill at Rg10-3050/100

I could not see The Shrubberies or the names mentioned.
The entry after 23 Shrub Hill has a John Pullen lodging, married, aged 23,railway engine cleaner, born Bitton Par?, Gloucestershire

The only Stephens families in that area that I found were headed by 1)Thomas Stephens 38 at Rg10-3050/64
2) Ann Stephens 55 at Rg10-3050/128

Hope someone else can help :)

Hi, thanks ever so much gardener. I've been struggling with this for ages.

As the story goes (as i understand it), an ancestor of the stephens family was illegitimately born to the wife of a gentleman farmer who lived in this 'shrubberies' address in shrub hill. the name pullen is in there somewhere, but we don't know where. maybe this John Pullen is the father?

would it be possible to find the full listings for shrub hill? I don't know how many there are so if its too much just say no!

thanks:)
elsie.

elsie.

More than I would like to transcribe :) Mostly they seem to be hotels and pubs along there so there are several unrelated people at many of the addresses. Do you have a date for any of this?
I'll check and see if The Shrubberies is an address in a later census.

that is great, thank you!

it looks very much like it fits with the story.

I don't suppose you've got anything any earlier as well have you? I know I'm being cheeky... ;)
