Thomas John and Emma Maud Chittleburgh - Great Yarmouth
« on: Monday 13 July 20 22:06 BST (UK) »
I need help finding siblings Thomas John B[rown?] and Emma Maud Fountain Chittleburgh.

Their parents were William George Chittleburgh, 1858-1908, and Elizabeth Sarah Brown, 1861-1909. They married 14 Aug 1880.

There is some debate over Thomas' name. 1881 census has his name as Thomas John B Chittleburgh but in 1891 his name is John J B Chittleburgh. Thomas was born c. 1879 in Great Yarmouth so may have been born before parents' marriage. The 'B' could stand for mother's maiden name. Haven't been able to find birth registration under Chittleburgh or Brown.

Emma Chittleburgh was born in 1898 Great Yarmouth. Only records I have for her are birth registration, 1901 and 1911 censuses. Can't find marriage or death record.

There could be a relation or connection to a Thomas Fountain who was a lodger of the Chittleburgh's, he was in both their 1901 and 1911 censuses.

Any help appreciated

4  Chittleburgh births on freebmd - 3 in Yarmouth

Beatrice Maud 1876
George Frederick 1878
James 1879 (Norwich)
Florence E 1880

Have you checked GRO online to get mothers maiden name

If Thomas was still alive in 1939 - have you checked the 1939 register which will give his full birthdate
Can't see any death reg for him

That baptism does look interesting, although I've never come across the name Myhill before  ???

Yes I've checked the 1939 register for both Thomas and Emma but no sign of either

CaroleW, the age seems to fit so it could be her. I wonder if she was alone?

There is also an 'Emma Chittleborgh' record on Ancestry for border crossings into the US from Canada that I can't look at, maybe that's her too?

No other Chittleburgh's on voyage.  Possibly part of the Home Children scheme - see my edit above

Possibly because her parents died when she was very young and she was the youngest child? I don't quite understand the meaning of Home Children though
