Matthew Huggett
« on: Wednesday 15 July 20 20:49 BST (UK) »
I need some help to find a baptism for a Matthew Huggett who married Mary Hinden in Headley 1728 both of Charlwood. He died in Charlwood in 1741, no age given.

The only baptism I’ve found was in Horne in 1685 son of Richard and Mary but there’s  also a death for a Matthew Huggett in Horne 1707/8 but can’t say if it’s the same man

Thank you both, Colin and Jo, for your replies and your help. I think Matthew baptised Betchworth 1691 is a good possibility. There’s a marriage between Matthew Huggett and Susanna Rose in Southwark in 1685 maybe his parents ?

There’s a burial 8 May 1696, Leigh Surrey for George Hughet s/o Mathew & Elizabeth

A will on Ancestry for Mathew Huggatt, blacksmith of Betchworth, probate 6 Mar 1711, names his son John, loving wife Susannah, daughter Freelove Greene and Huggatt grandchildren William, Mathew, Elizabeth and Anne. He was buried at St Michael Betchworth in 1711.

Baptisms at St Bartholomew Leigh, to Mathew & Katherine Huggatt (various versions of spellings)
1660 Elizabeth
1662 Mary
1664 Freelove
1666 Mathew
1669 John
1676 Ephram

Freelove Huggitt married Mathew Greene, 1688, St James, Dukes Place, London.

Marriage to Susannah Rose in 1685 must have been after the death of Katherine. Is your Mathew the grandson mentioned? The son of either John, Mathew or Ephram?

Is Mathew (husband of Elizabeth, father of George) the Mathew bap 1666 to Mathew & Katherine, possibly the father of your Mathew?

A marriage 1688 at St James Duke Place for Mathew Huggett, Bach, and Elizabeth Best.

This is possibly Mathew, son of Mathew and Katherine, and the Mathew and Elizabeth baptising children in Leigh and Charlwood in the late 1600’s.
George buried 1696
Elizabeth bapt 1698
And possibly... Mathew bap 1691...(still looking for William & Anne)

He is also possibly the Mathew Hugget buried in St Dunstans in 1707, which would explain why he is not mentioned in father Mathews will...

Thank you Jo for your great work and help!  ;D

The Huggett Family really confuses me, i thought it would be easy to find the baptism for Matthew Huggett but the name Matthew is a common name in the Huggett Family so its more difficult to trace the right Matthew Huggett.

I’ll take a closer look and try to find the right connection.
