Most grateful for the info regarding my Seaforth Highlanders photo.

I wondered if you could glean any further information either about my grandfather and his service record or the other gentlemen in the attached photos.

I think I will have to post all three photos separately cause of their size?
In this photo Thomas Wilson is on the left, (wearing a rather fetching bonnet!)  Could anyone identify the hat badge of the man on the right.
Thank you. Tunod

It's much easier to use the "Reply" button on the original thread ;D

This appears to have been overlooked since the other threads appeared.

Loose end - cap badge of the man on the right - The general service badge of the South African army worn by all except artillery and engineers.

The springbok it depicts was rudely known as the goat in a hole.  Images here:

Looks like the sort of photo taken after a medal presentation but the medal ribbon foxes me - any ideas KGarrad or others?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Little addition to the above.  T Wilson served with 7 Seaforths in 9th Division which the South African Brigade joined in early 1916.

Such a small detail but so much information.  Thank you.  I had wondered who all the people were in the photos mainly because I wondered if they were relatives.  I have been looking for traces of Thomas Wilson's brother George who I never knew existed until  recently.  He was never mentioned during my childhood and I can find very little mention of him except in the census.

I don't think I have found him but Have at least learnt a little more re the people my grandfather was in some way close to.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.  Tunod

I have tried looking at my 2000 copy of the "Medal Yearbook" (a snip at 20p from my library book sale!), but can't identify the ribbon?
It looks to be of 5 stripes - light, dark, light, dark, light.

The ribbon looks very similar to that of the Meritorious Service Medal. I'm not stating that this is what it is as I am uncertain - just that it looks very similar.
(1) Janions of Cheshire, Lancashire, Hawaii, Vancouver and Seattle.
(2) Gregorys of Tarporley, Cheshire.
(3) Pughs of 'The New Pale' near Frodsham and Delamere in Cheshire.
(4) Nevills of Llanelly, Llangennech and Felinfoel.
(5) Yaldens of Ovington/Lovington in Hampshire.
