Missing family member sent away to school in Forest Row, Sussex
« on: Sunday 19 July 20 10:50 BST (UK) »
I'm posting on behalf of someone in my Genealogy Group who has long been searching for a family member born in 1908 in Lambeth and due to difficulties within the family was sent to live with another family - most likely an aunt or uncle. The story is that she attended a school in Forest Row in Sussex. She would have been sent away from about age 3 to somewhere in her teens and although a visit has been made to Forest Row searching for the school she would have attended, nothing was found and the assumption has been made that whatever school it was, is no longer there.

Does anyone have any local knowledge of schools in the area from around 1912 to 1922?

She hasn't been found on the 1911 census.

Any ideas?

I've spoken to the researcher to get confirmation - the missing family member is Grace Vera Hirst.

Presumably you have found her when she is married (1934) and staying with her brother in 1939

There's a Grace Hurst, Hirst, Herst, Hust? :-\, 3, born London, possibly says Peckham, adopted daughter, living in Peckham (Camberwell) in 1911.

Also in Camberwell.

Free index says Mr Brasier was from Sussex, but right down in Hastings.

The Brasier family seemed to stay in the Camberwell area.  Mother Emmaline died 1929 - daughters Emmaline & Matilda both married in the area

sent to live with another family - most likely an aunt or uncle.

Do you have an aunt or uncle in mind? Someone living in Forest Row or nearby?
