Cater or Charles Overy.
« on: Tuesday 21 July 20 22:43 BST (UK) »
Me again.

Looking for the above, I think he was born about 1768.
His wife was Mary Beeching (I think).
He’s son is Walter Overy who was born in Ticehurst.
Any help would be appreciated please.

No registered birth, but England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 has Walter Overy, born 1837, Rotherfield Sussex, mother Mary Overy, no father listed.

There is a burial for a 73yo Cator Avery at Etchingham on 7 May 1841. If he was Walters father there would be no reason for him not to be named above? Also, he would have been 70 at that time, not impossible, but unlikely.

Do you have Walters marriage certificate? What does it say for his fathers name and occupation?

There is a Cator Avery baptism in 1796, in Salehurst, s/o Robert Avery. If Walters marriage cert names Cator as his father, this one born 1796 is a more likely option.

Don't know if this is of any relevence - but a Cater Overy is listed as an Apprentice in June 1785 in 'Battel' Sussex - apprenticed to a Collar Maker. (Unusual occupation).
