Dumbarton Cemetery
« on: Monday 27 July 20 18:34 BST (UK) »
Some ancestors of mine were in Dumbarton town from about 1890 onwards. I have a few dates of death and would like to find burial places for them. Does anyone know how easy it is to get results from the local council on this subject? Any idea of the charges?
Thank you in advance.

Have you tried Findagrave & Billiongraves. They are not complete but you may get lucky.

What was the name?

Many thanks for the speedy replies. Sites like Findagrave etc are not what I am looking for, they would only give monumental inscriptions whereas I would like to know exactly how many people are in one particular grave. The stone, if there is one, may not be a true record of the lair.
The name I am researching at the moment is McCafferty, the family of my grandfather's mother.
James McCafferty died in Dumbarton in 1947, his mother Sarah Kerr/Carr died in Dumbarton in 1908. Other names are James' siblings, Sarah who also died in 1947, she was married to Hugh Docherty.
Mary, died 1952, married to James Docherty (brother of Hugh) and Roseann who died in 1950, married to Charles McKinley.  The all died in Dumbarton, I think one of the Docherty brothers was a bookie!

Lodger, for future reference they have the burial books onsite going back to when it opened in 1854.  If you call the cemetery office you will find they are a very helpful bunch even to those living in Motherwell.
