Medals - what are they
« on: Wednesday 29 July 20 10:23 BST (UK) »
Hello people,

apologies first if this post is in the wrong place. I'm not sure whether to put this here on Armed Forces or over on the NZ page.

These are medals & badges I found left behind by my Dad who served in Japan 1947-48 as a NZ soldier in BCOF (British Commonwealth Occupation Force).  He was transferred to the Australian occupation force about four months after he arrived so he also has a mixture of Australian badges.

Can anyone tell me about this odd badge?
I can make out the letters NZ but the others are hard to discern.
Does anyone recognise it? I'd like to know what it signifies.

Thanks for help
-David C

It isn't a medal it is the Royal New Zealand Air Force cap badge.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Hello again Max

Hello Medpat

Air Force badge makes sense as my father was a trainee in the air force for 6 months until the end of the war. He never left NZ until years later when he joined the JayForce.

I couldn't make out the lettering. What are the letters, in sequence?

The letters are intertwined.  N Z you have identified.  the R is central, the A to the left as we look at it has a bent left leg and a straight right leg, and the F to the right which doesn't have the central horizontal piece.
