Berry marriage
« on: Saturday 15 August 20 15:07 BST (UK) »
My uncle, Harold Berry, was born in Leeds in 1911. His parents were Harry Berry and Lily Stringer, who were married in 1910, at St Edmund, Leeds.

Harold died in 1940, aged 28. I believe that he was married, but do not know to whom. The only evidence that seems to exist within the family is a couple of photographs. One is of my father and my uncle on my father's wedding day (Sept. 1939) and the other, taken the same day, of the two brothers with a woman and two small children.

There are two marriages registered in Leeds that could have possibly been his, in 1932 and 1933. I can discount the later one. The 1932 marriage is between Harold Berry and Ellen Hawkridge, at the Quaker Meeting House. Does anyone have access to the marriage registers for the Leeds Quakers?

Details of the St Edmund's marriage would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, PeterB

Have you located him on the 1939 register as that will tell you if he was married

You could apply for his death certificate to see if the informant was his widow (wife)

As Rosie suggests finding him on the 1939 register will be helpful.

If his birthdate was 21 September 1911 then he seems to have been unmarried in late 1939.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions. I'm sure that the 21/9/1911 birthdate is correct, but the unmarried status is puzzling. If Harold was not married, then I suppose that I'm not going to resolve this.
As far as the woman and two children in the photo is concerned, she is not my aunt Frances. She was 18yo when my father married and it is not her in the photo.
I was hoping that the Quaker marriage details would solve the problem.

Thanks again,
PeterB

Just to say the woman and two small children could have belonged to any of the wedding party not necessarily your Uncle although I can see why you thought so if they were on the same photo.

What was the composition of the photo?  Did he have any of the children in his arms for example to suggest a close relationship.
