Help with a place name, Ansham Hill?
« on: Thursday 25 August 05 09:45 BST (UK) »
On the 1861 Census Elizabeth Randall aged 88 appears to have been born at Ansham/Anshern Hill Lincs. I can't locate it on my map.

Does anyone know where this could be? If it's any help her daughter was born at Coningsby.

The Census ref is RG9/2335 Folio 75 Page 18 Boston

Thank you.

I can't see anything like that on a map.

1851
2099/203
Field St, Boston
William SHARP 33 Baker, Wrangle
Ann 28 Coningsby
Ann 4 Sholar, Boston
William 1 Boston
Elizabeth RANDALL (wid) 78 Pauper, Coningsby

This seems to make Elizabeth quite old when she had Ann; could she have been a stepmother?

Thank you very much for that information.

I'll go with the Coningsby area to try and trace Ann's birth. As you say Elizabeth Randall does seem too old to be Ann's mother and the ages are consistant with the 1861 Census.

And in 1861 Ann decided she was called Selina which makes things a little more difficult......  ???

From the 1861 Census William & Ann had a son Edward who was born c 1849 (between the 2 children you listed in 1851). Could you possibly have a look and see if he was staying with someone else in the area please?

Hi

I haven't seem the image, but could it be Amber Hill Boston?

Near Coningsby there is also: Chapel Hill, Scrub Hill, Bunkers Hill. But these don't look much like Ansham/Anshern!

Sorry, I don't think I looked at the image before  :-[

The possibility of finding any sort of hill in the vicinity of Coningsby seemed rather unlkely!

Looking at the image, I can get Anshorn Hill.  A mile or two south of Coningsby, at an altitude of less than 10 metres (the lowest contour on my map), I can see Hawthorn Hill .... if you are illiterate and drop your aitches, you can get Awthorn ... Awthorn ... Anshorn ... could it be?

This is from a couple of years ago and I'm wondering whether I posted it .  But I don't recognise the name "alnat"
Elizabeth Palmer is an ancestor of mine.
On her death certificate Eliabeth is described as the widow of William Palmer , but I couldn't find her marriage. She died in Boston at the age of 94

Did you ever resolve Anshorn Hill ?

Her son in law was William doughty Sharp , born Wrangle 1818

If anyone has any more information about the family I would love to hear from you.
