Henry and William Stockton, last seen in Awre, 1861
« on: Sunday 16 August 20 21:06 BST (UK) »
Hello,

The pair were father and son. Henry was christened in Market Drayton (Shropshire) in 1801, and William in High Offley (Staffordshire) in 1836, while living in Woodseaves. They were lodging on Blakeney Street in 1861, as both worked on the railways. I can’t see either after that, nor Henry’s wife Sarah.

I’d greatly appreciate any help!

No trace of Henry or Sarah, no deaths recorded on GRO for Henry 1861-1871 but no census.

It is possible William married Mary Turley Q2/1861 Westbury on severn but no trace after.

Thanks Colin! So peculiar for them to just fall off the face of the Earth. Can't see any records of emigration either.

Have you seen the William Stockton who appears on the 1871-1911 censuses, born Market Drayton circa 1837/8? he is variously a bricklayer (1871), a prison warder & Chelsea pensioner(1881) and attendant at a  safe deposit (1891 and 1901). Has children with wife Julia (nee Farrer?) from Liverpool.

I hadn’t seen that, but I believe that’s a different man, as there is a William Stockton christened in Market Drayton on the 17th of September 1837, the son of Joseph and Sarah Stockton.

There is a family tree on Ancestry if this is the family you are researching, seems at sometime they were in America but obviously returned as Eileen was born in Monmouth, baptism  included on FT

Am I on the right lines?

It certainly looks like the right marriage for William - to Mary Turley in 1861: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/5156/images/43138_636897_2263-00322?pId=12442724
