Stafford Census's
« on: Tuesday 18 August 20 11:08 BST (UK) »
I have been using the address search tool in Findmypast to research the changes in the development of housing and occupations of those that lived in a street over time. It seems to work quite well for some but there are two streets in Stafford, Backwalls North and South, where the households appear to come and go.

Backwalls North 1841       1851   1861   1871   1881   1891    1901      1911
                         0        92     0     131        91     0       0     100
Backwalls South
                    0           1     0       0       33    46       0            47

Has anyone come across similar issues?

Best Wishes

I don’t understand your grid.  Is it the number of dwellings?

In 1851 there are 97 houses in Backwalls North
in  1861 there are also 97. This time it’s Back Walls North

Your table has lost its formatting so I'm not sure which ones you are missing.

Just looking at 1901, Backwalls North is in piece 2571, starting on page 3.

The formatting has gone astray, Cannot paste a table into this text box. The numbers are households that Findmypast returns when searching on roads in the various censuses. The Table has 8 columns for the census dates from 1841 to 1911 and number of households are in the two rows.

The Backwalls were were well populated through out the period and it makes no sense that the number of households should appear and disappear in consecutive census's

Sorry if this was not clear.

Kind regards

Graham

I think the "zero" results will be down to mistranscription.

In 1901 Backwalls has been transcribed as Back Walls. Back Wall North has 113 hits, Back Walls South has 35.
